Unfortunately most people judge others ( esp.Muslims) way too early, you know that :(
If a Non-Muslim commits a crime, nobody cares about it. But if a Muslim makes a mistake, everybody is like: "All Muslims are the same - inhuman and cruel!"
It's very intolerant, as you say, but we know that they even look for Muslims doing mistakes, so they can confirm their wrong prejudices :(
Hopefully they will be educated about Islam :)

@CanZu7 I don't think people should worry so much about others' perceptions. People who see women wearing hijabs or headscarves shouldn't judge them on that. If they are curious if the woman is Muslim, then they should ask or maybe just put it out of their mind because it's really none of their business. Anyone who judges the actions of one person as the actions of an entire religion is ignorant. Those people exist but they need to be educated when that arises.
