A senior official for the Cambodian Mekong Committee says that Laos could face a complaint at the International Court if it chooses to go forward with a planned hydroelectric dam without the support of other Mekong countries.

The Xayaburi dam project is not supported fully by other Southeast Asian countries, and if it goes forward unilaterally, the country will be in "noncompliance" with a 1995 Mekong River agreement, said Watt Botkosal, deputy secretary-general of the committee. Ministers from Mekong countries are scheduled to meet in Siem Reap later this week. (Say Mony in Phnom Penh, interviewing Watt Botkosal.)

  • They are still working out a resolution to this issue, the Mekong countries have been meeting in Siem Reap Cambodia to work out a deal. So far Laos agree that they would not start to build until the 4 countries can agree on something. Further study is being done by a Japanese country to solidify the effects of the damn on the Mekong river.

  • Why I asked Sticknudong, I wanted him to give me evidences...what had happened, was not able to produce sound statement...always placed assumption,...as result, his statements just another propaganda...

  • Like soksabai79 who brought the subject out ...always spoken stupid things and didnt bring evidences to support his points..When your evidences were not enough, what you had said turned into propaganda. It is a lie.

  • When you are trying to claim anything's about your points, bring support evidences to back up your claims. Don't try to be you know it all and other don't. Otherwise, you are making your selves look very bad.
