And don't get me started on those add-on chrome fender flares. Pure pimp. I've heard it said that the W107 was the type of car seen in almost every 1970s TV detective drama -- driven by the wealthy, bored, affair-prone housewife who'd just killed her old man for the insurance money, so she could run off with a gigolo. McMillan & Wife, Columbo, you name it -- check it out. It's b/c the car instantly said, "wealth and privilege" to viewers in Middle America.

I don't agree the US bumpers spoil the look. They usefully lengthen the line. When MB shortened the car a couple of inches in '87, it began to look a little stubby. If any feature should go, it's that damned Dole (high-mount stop) light -- the trunk was designed without it!

These are fantastic cars. I had a 450SL and now I have a 300SL. THe US spec bumpers are hideous and make the car look like those old dodgem cars.

In your video you can see the difference. If I lived in the US, I would replace these immediately.
