The Nevada Division of Forestry and the Carson City Shade Tree Council hosted a tree planting ceremony in honor of Arbor Day and the Division of Forestry's 50th Anniversary on April 27, 2007. The ceremony was held at the Nevada Firefighter's Memorial in Mills Park, Carson City.

The Carson City Shade Tree Council is an advisory board to the Carson City Board of Supervisors regarding the city's tree related activities. The Council formed in 1992, and has since held an Arbor Day celebration every year and sponsors annual tree care seminars. The Division of Forestry presented Carson City's 13th Tree City USA award at the Arbor Day event.

The Division of Forestry was created by the Nevada Legislature in 1957, under the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, to "supervise or coordinate all forestry and watershed work on state and privately-owned lands, including fire control...working with federal agencies, private associations, counties, towns, cities or private persons." The Division has initiated and participated in numerous of programs during the 50 years it has been in existence, one of which is assisting in Arbor Day celebrations across Nevada every year.

Arbor Day celebrates trees and the many benefits that trees provide. The holiday was founded by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Nebraska in 1872, making this year the 135th anniversary of Arbor Day. Since then, Arbor Day is celebrated across the United States, including in 11 communities across Nevada.
