War on Wild Horses & Burros

Over the past 7 years the BLM has been mandated to remove thousands of wild horses and burros from public lands - from their legal ranges. Areas that the law states should be used primarily for wild horses and burros. There are now more of them in government holding pens than there are in the wild. You won't hear the BLM complain about the cost to taxpayers for all of these roundups, but you sure hear them complain about the cost to taxpayers of supporting them once they're in government pens - a problem they created. It costs taxpayers nothing to leave them in the wild. There are 4.1 million domestic livestock on public lands and less than 24,000 wild horses and less than 3,000 burros. This is what they call a balanced ecosystem in the name of "multiple use." Wild horses and burros should be listed as a threatened species. Public lands ranching contributes less than 3% of the total beef consumed in the U.S. and costs taxpayers at least 3 times as much through federal subsidies as the wild horse and burro eradication program. The BLM and ranchers blame wild horses and burros for the damage done by the millions of domestic cattle and sheep, just one of their excuses fed to Congress and the media to help them justify removing them from their ranges. It's either that or "they're starving" and need to be "saved". Wild horses & burros survived for centuries without man's so-called help. The question is, will they survive man?

People need to call Congress and demand an investigation of the BLM immediately. It's getting critical for wild horses & burros and the photos in this video are just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm confused,If the horses are staving then why do they put cows out to graze? if there's no food for horses(Which are far better at getting nutrition from food then cows) what make anyone think that cows wont starve? The horse granted may not be native but have survived without people for 500 years. They were here before the the cattle and even the farmers ansectors! They if anything should have some kind of seniority. The population at one time was over 4 million i think 33000 isn't gonna hurt

They're not starving. This is the BLM lie used to remove wild horses. Since all the photos show well fed wild horses, the BLM then says they have to remove them incase of "future" starvation. They have crystal balls you know.

After watching a couple of videos i found last night, about Pres. Bush wanting the oil, I understand a little better why most of our wild horses are being held in captivity. Maybe once he's out of office, the new Pres. will let them be returned home. (We can only pray)

It's actually gotten worse, Obama appointed a former rancher to head the DOI and the BLM is using Stimulus Money to remove entire herds now. So much for that change we were hoping for.

Facts and Photos don't lie. Your own photos show millions of acres of land, why are they bringing in those small bands? They're fat, healthy, there's plenty of forage, they've survived centuries in the wild without all this interference from man. Enjoy taking the photos you do while you can, too bad they are only of helicopters chasing them. They are reducing the numbers to below genetic viability, soon their excuse for removing even what's left will be "due to inbreeding."

Horses came in with Spanish explorers several hundred years ago. From the Civil War era to WWI, the government often added top Morgan, Arabian, and Thoroughbred blood to make good mount horses for wars, and farmers often tried to improve herds with their best stallions as well.

Now, cattlemen angry with government interference want them gone. Sagebrush Rebllion. And of course sense there are many cattlemen involved with the BML, we can all see where that is heading.

This is so very sad. I hope everyone read's David Martin Anderson's latest novel, THE LAST GOOD HORSE, which just got released (available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble). The plot is set in 1939 Montana and has to do with the slaughter of the last great mustang herds. Great story! Also, check out the author interview on YouTube (search by the author's full name).

I feel that privately owned livestock should not be allowed on public land. I pay taxes to help support that land and I want to see the wild horses on it. Not cattle belonging to some greedy ahole rancher that wants all the horses removed so he can put even more cattle on the land. We americans have a say in this. It is our taxes that pay for maintaining the land and the animals on it. Lets tell the goverment that we want to pay for public horses, not private cattle!!

this genocide on wild horses & burros has NOTHING to do with land, starvation or cattle grazing...period... it has EVERYTHING to do with natural gas pipeline & fracking thousands more holes into the earth (is this safe? see GasLand)...so the greediest oil companies can be even more wealthy... we have plenty of sun, wind & water to power this country & world - problem is - the oil industry cant hoard that money...OUR lands, OUR horses, oh yeah its OUR money they use to round up! Honestly it has come to the point, that almost ALL HUMANS (Though there are a great some out there that are not like so), have came to the point, they only care about money, and what makes money, which is the cattle. They no longer care about one of the greatest symbols of the word and what help created America as we know it today. And that is the horses themselves, people only want money and possions these days which is really sad :(
