President Obama and many other politicians want to expand the burden of government and make America more like France. In this video from the Center for Freedom and Prosperity (co-produced by ReasonTV - http://reason.tv ), Veronique de Rugy of the Mercatus Center explains that the United States should not emulate the policies of her native country. Pfff pointless vidéo, When you consider disposable income do you include health and pensions??? If you did I'm pretty sure the result wouldn't look that way.
I think it is still amusing to see people having those kind of beliefs considering the massive recession the the world is dealing with since 2008.
Haven't you notice that France dealt with recession better than the rest of "free market" industiralized world.
Get your facts straight you traitor biatch, go back to suck oncle sam's knob XD

Tuition could and should be cheaper. Even as it stands now though, the economic benefits that come from holding a bachelors degree far outweigh incurred debt. Those holding a 4 degree make on average almost twice as much as those having just finished high school. 43% of American students owe less than 10k. These amounts are paid back at very low interest rates over very long periods of time. Payments can be deferred and some debt can be forgiven for public service.

FYI All American citizens have access to federally backed student loans which may cover part or all of their college expenses. A bachelor degree is in reach of any American student who does reasonably well in high school.

you have very strong beliefs, obviously you know what you are talking about..or not.
sorry darling but if you put fees in the balance I do not think your so called "experience" of the french system stands a chance lol. Many immigrant in France get much better chance than in the US where you need much more money to access "decent" education (by your standards tough)

The United States has an enormous welfare system. Entitlement programs which provide income for seniors as well as health care for seniors and the poor make up almost half the federal budget. American health care is more expensive than French health care. This does not mean we do not receive treatment when we need it. The quality of our health care is in every way as good our superior to France's.

I've lived in France and the drop in the general quality of life is obvious. I was forced to receive health care in a run-down clinic and had to have my x-ray done in a van in a parking lot behind the building! Student dormitories are decrepit and instruction is generally inferior to that available in the U.S. Moreover, there is a general lack of upward mobility in France which results in stagnant living standards for the poorest, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds.

At the moment, it's incontestable that the American stock market is stronger than Europe's. Investors choose to place their money here. We have less debt than you by percentage, less unemployment and stronger growth. The French pay about the same % of health care out of pocket as Americans. This is because the gov't has no choice but to reimburse less and less and supplemental private insurance is purchased by 92% of France.

France's debt is 86.5% of its GDP. The USA is at 73. Both of these are bad, but France's is worse. And somehow I have more trust in the Americans to do what is needed to straighten the course. A lot of Westerners feel overly entitled, but the French more so than most, in my opinion. Ben Franklin had it right: “When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”
