  • Dear god! You're right. I called the campground to see if you were lying and sure enough the wonderful DNR has shut down the off road trails due to "water way damage". Today we've lost another freedom.

  • hey where's this at? nice cherokee!

  • Try googling 'mccaslin mountain wisconsin'.

  • I realy want to try it up here. I live in central WI. I here there are by-passes for the hard stuff. I have an 89 toyota that will be on 33 muds and locked rear, ill have to check it out.

  • We didnt encounter any 'impassables'. Everything we came across was in our range or slightly out of; in which case we routed around the obstacle. There was much of McCaslin that we didnt explore so we may have missed all the hard stuff.

  • Good to know they are still open, I had heard alot got closed. When I was there, we always seemed to be on stuff that was more difficult then that. People I was with had 37" tires and they had some problems in spots. I had to skip alot with my 32" tires and no winch. Anyway, if you like mild dirt ( I do), there is actually a fire road that comes out on the paved road very close to the campground. I like traveling using fire roads, you see some nice scenery and its all 2wd, normally.

  • Fire roads are civilian accessible? In other words, do we have to worry about johnny law?

  • @beardedwulverine Yup its all of the retards with huge tractor tires tearing everything up that gets these places closed down pipeline is next

  • @beardedwulverine i just bought a 96 xj (i'm 16 and live near milwaukee) and was hoping to build it for a place like this, then low and behold its closed :(

  • i just found out all mccaslin trails are closed permanantly D:

  • Funny you should mention that, there is, or was, a trail that was named "Mission: Impassable". I dented my frame and transfer case skid plate pretty good on the "Rock Garden" bypass arounds its main mud hole. I watched a pick-up on 44's struggle to get through it the main mudhole.

  • I never had a problem, but a friend was driving a bit fast once when a DNR guy stopped him and asked him to take it easy on the gravel. They are regular roads, just gravel, not paved. Occasionally you will see ones that are closed due to washouts, it is possible you could get a ticket if you drove down them. And, they -may- be closed a few weeks in spring when its wet, but I'm not positive on that. Look for signs and obey them, and you are probably good.
