Accompagnés par une rythmique efficace, quatre guitaristes réunis pour une conférence au sommet : Chuck Loeb, Russell Malone, Pat Martino et Mark Whitfield. En fait, une succession de morceaux où chacun est mis tour à tour en valeur. Pas de véritables échanges, mais la confrontation de styles et d'inspirations différents sur des standards, Polka Dots And Moonbeans, Caravan, Stompin At The Savoy, thèmes empruntés à Wes Montgomery, leur ancêtre commun (Four On Six, Road Song), compositions originales de Pat Martino. Pas question d'établir une hiérarchie, mais le plus en verve, ce soir, des quatre mousquetaires est Russell Malone, dont la sensibilité et le swing restent toujours impressionnants. Le public ne s'y est, du reste, pas trompé.
@weskoki ...I heard Russell play back in 2009 with Dianne Reeves and Romero Lubambo, and it was not a good sound venue, so could not give an objective opinion about his new Sadowsky. he has since changed to the Sadowsky LS-17. Russell came back in 2010 to the Seattle area to play with Ron Carter and Mulgrew Miller at Jazz Alley, with his Gibson L-5, which I was very happy to see. I was there for three out of the four nights, and the first night was a bad sound with loud buzzing happening.
