English Translation by Ramesh Krishnakumar, to the mesmerising rendering by the great carnatic singer, the late M.S.Subbulakshmi.

One of the most sacred and commonly chanted hymns in Hinduism, the Vishnu sahasranama as found in the Mahabharata is the most popular version of the 1000 names of Vishnu.

Written by the great Sage Vyasa, the hymn describes the answers to core questions on the easiest and best means by which mankind can attain lasting happiness, peace of mind, and relief from all bondage and sorrows.

The answer is to contemplate on the universal super soul the cause of all causes and understand the connectedness, the relation between the soul and the supersoul.

This will remove your illusions, fears, anxiety.

Chanting and perceiving the different forms of Vishnu connects you to the boundless potential that exists in the universe of which we are part of. The chants are in the anustup meter and is said to give great benefits leading to success in this life .

  • Awesome compilation

  • @TheIndianRailways yes, could have been better ...but it was only used to give the image of goddess parvathi since the hymn refers the next two stanza to her advise.

  • Namaste. Thank you for posting this. It is very inspiring. One small thing that I must take issue with is your use of the image at 1:12, in my opinion it is incongruous here. Aum Hari
