Nice bass line for sure. By the way, did I hear the tone color of the bass change around 1:15 or so? I thought I heard a little more crunch kick in right about then. This is like, "Pat Metheny shows up in the studio with Yes" or something like that.
Nice fish and crustaceans, too.
When are you getting yourself a Carvin bass? :)

Oh, and you might really notice the bass change at 3:59. This is the ONLY song on which I alternately pick with my fingers, AND a pick.

@guitarsenall Sweet. I will do that. And you know, as I was meditating on my 45 minute commute through the rural interstate mountain passes here in WNC, I thought to myself: "Gee. That Metheny/Yes thing was over the top. How big a patsy does this guy think you are?" But you know what, I was right. I hear a combination of guitar-based jazz fusion, and progressive rock.

@gnpahdc OK, I confess: I am HUGELY influenced by Yes. As for Metheny, I have only heard him on "Bright Size Life" (with Jaco Pastorius), but his playing there absolutely fascinates me and blows my mind. I played eight years of Jazz Band (high school plus college) and my first guitar lessons were from a jazz/blues player! You pegged it! Thanks again.

I think the bass tone changed based on how I attacked the strings differently--really digging in and driving right there. As for a Carvin bass, I have been looking at a used one at Flores Music with no price tag (?). Its strings are dead, but it plays fantastically. But allow me to continue my denial that I was ever a bass player!! And thanks for the incredibly generous reference to Pat Metheny and Yes.
