You could fail your test for not using the bus lane when its not in force, as the normal position for driving is about 1 meter from the kerb. Undertaking and making progress in your own lane are different.

Amazing how many people who have passed their test are completely incapable of reading the times on the bus lane signs. Or perhaps they can't even tell the time.

I use bus lanes where i live because people drive so slow, pass on the left job done. They've stopped swerving to block me since i traded my clio for an old range rover. Funny that...
