GRITtv: William K. Black: Elizabeth Warren & Consumers

Former regulator, savings & loan investigator, and current Braintruster at the Roosevelt Institute William K. Black says that if Elizabeth Warren isn't appointed to head the consumer protection agency passed as part of the financial reform bill, it will be a clear sign that the agency isn't going to protect consumers at all. While Warren has done the research in the field for 20 years, he notes, other candidates preferred by Treasury Secretary Geithner have fallen more into the Rubin/Summers camp of deregulators.

Black joins us via Skype from Kansas City, where he's professor of Economics and Law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, to break down the problems with the financial reform bill and make the case for Warren as the only way for real consumer protection. Distributed by Tubemogul.

Thanks William Black and Laura, Here's what I expect. More of the same. Cast system building. Funnelling all wealth to the very top. Dumping all debt on the poor and working parts of the cast system. The only way the people could be lucky enough to get someone like Elizabeth Warren would be if the position was made to be impossible to help anybody or thing.

The idea of congress "reforming" the banking industry is laughable. The whole system is based on debt-getting people in it, and squeezing every penny available out of them. Ever stop to think why the whole "personal credit rating" industry has taken off? A "good" credit rating only means you are capable of getting into way more debt than you can afford to pay. IT'S A SCAM.

The bankers have plundered almost 28 trillion in the first tranche, and that was sent overseas or was handed out in secret payola to Fortune 500 crooks. Congress must call the God damn bankers onto the carpet, demand answers, demand reform, and clawback the plundered trillions.

Any stinking banker that balks must be arrested and thier records seized.

A new federal bureaucracy stuffed full of attorneys is a VERY BAD IDEA.  28 trillion in plunder stolen by the bankers will GRAFT that body and the situation will be WORSE than before. @RandallSteen They will destroy her naivety not her, her career is already done what can they do?People like watching Bill Blacks about the current crises but they should take a look at the hearings of the saving & loan debacle. It was the same thing but it failed because of an handful of people like Bill blacks who stood up to their bosses. The guy should be dean of a prestigious law school and he is only an assistant professor ,that's what happen when you go against the will of the powerful.
