HIV Among African Americans

The latest CDC estimates of new HIV infections indicate that African Americans, more than any other racial/ethnic group, continue to bear the greatest burden of HIV in the United States. CDC's Dr. William L. Jeffries IV discusses the impact of HIV on African Americans and what actions can be taken in commemoration of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

Young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (referred to as MSM) are the most affected group among African Americans, and 54% of new infections among MSM were in African Americans.

The above stat is from the CDC. It's obvious that - as a matter of public health policy - homosexual sex ought to be discouraged. Interventions offered by the CDC should include the option of counseling for clients with unwanted same-sex attractions.
