From my favorite version of the Nutcracker. Anyone know what this number is called? I've never seen it in any other version of the Nutcracker. Performed by the Pacific Northwest Ballet.

  • I watch this movie every Christmas. Unfortunately, I could never find it on DVD, so I've been surviving on a VHS copy recorded off TV. This was always my favourite adaptation of THE NUTCRACKER, which was more based on Maurice Sendak's (darker) version than Tchaikovsky's (lighter) version, but I always loved that about this film!

Is it just me, or did anyone else find Hugh Bigney's Drosselmeier really hot? Even if he was "bad toucher," hahaha!

  • I couldn't agree with you more. It is fabulous and Hush Bigney is hot!

  • This is my favorite nutcracker version. I always loved this song so much and have looked for it over the years. It sounds German to me. I raised my kids with probably 5 different nutcrackers and this was everyone's favorite. Especially Drosselmeyer in the beginning where he is in his workshop. Thank you for posting this.

  • besideds, thicovsky didnt write this song. everything he wrote for this play was put in the original, this song was thrown in 4 fun

  • The dancers in the scene are they trying to tell the back story in the scene, which is the ugly princess and the mouse queen's revenge, which is in the original story and the Maurice Sendak book as well.

  • Why is this song in this movie, theres no words

  • i love this song!

  • This is my favorite "Nutcracker" ever. Maurice Sendak's designs are perfect for the story. The scene with the Christmas tree growing (really Clara "shrinking") was epic.

  • It is available for instant viewing on Netflix...Just saw it and loved it!

  • Wow, I've been looking for this version of the Nutcracker! Specifically this scene because I knew it wasn't part of Tchaikovsky's original but I loved this piece too. Thanks so much!

  • He also reminds me of Carson from Queer Eye!

  • @halerac88 I'm going to have to do that then. People don't realize how many great films and TV shows have been lost from the transition between VHS to DVD and now DVD to Blu-ray.
