On Saturday 3/9/11 oil-burning 4-6-4 steam locomotive R711 ran a test run from Newport to Seymour and return, seen here climbing the 1 in 52 grade towards the site of Beveridge station.
R711 had been out of service for several years since the demise of it's former operator, West Coast Railway. It has now returned to the rails in the hands of Steamrail Victoria, and is sporting the Victorian Railways 'Blue and Gold' livery (never historically worn by this class, but rather attractive nonetheless).
I was on it. It was a great day, shame about the wind though.
