Sound only. A somewhat unsual bus. Dennis Dominator production had ceased completely when, in 1993 Guildford and Surrey ordered a small batch with the unusual cummins/voith driveline which gave a particularly fast running bus. The last dominator of all was n716tpk which for some reason ended up being transfered to Arriva North West, joining the unique low height ex Midland Red examples at Chester. It is caught here on a 230 between Chester and Winsford (which also had an Arriva Depot, though Chester had sole control of the service). Once we left the environs of Chester, the driver really opened her up resulting in a cracking ride the quality if which, sadly, is somewhat varied due to the bumpy nature of the roads being travelled on.

This bus (which doesn't half sound like a metrobus when at speed!) was later moved to Winsford and then to Bootle depot. Won't be able to get a run like this on the 60 down Queens Drive I shouldn't imagine!

  • Awesome Video! I guess Cummins L10 powered Dominators in the UK are rare, aren't they? Any more of these examples?

This one sounds like those Dennis Dragons and Condors with Cummins in HK.

  • Hiya and thanx for the kind comment. I believe there were very few Dominators in Britain with the cummins/voith driveline arrangement. I know of the batch of 4 for Guildford and Surrey of which this bus was one, and I also think either Southampton or Bournemouth (not sure which I'm afraid). Other than that I don't know of any more. Gardners or Rolls Royce engines in all the others I know of

    Best wishes

    Chris

  • I know the newer East Lancs Grimsby-Cleethorpes Dominators are with Cummins. Somebody posted a video here before but it was gone.

Apart from the Cummins powered Metrobus from Merseyside and East Kent, Cummins powered Dominators are my second favorite. But they are so rare it is hard to find their recordings. Thank you for sharing!

  • Hiya, actually the Merseyside cummins metrobuses are my favourite buses of all time. They were introduced to my area when I was 9 (at Gillmoss) and ran from my local depot (St Helens) between 1993 and 2002 and I absolutely loved them. I only have a few sound recordings of them from the early 90s and they are of very poor quality (and not very fast) but will try to dig them out and post them. Also I have a few recordings of the stotts vehicles ex Merseybus but again they're not very good.
