Obviously we all have our opinions as to who the best is, and you know, all these different opinions get tiring. That's why Chris Thile came along: we don't have to worry about who the best is anymore! He can out-bluegrass Ricky Skaggs and then turn around and write a Bach-like composition. The rest of you are the crotchety people who wrote these folks off in the first place place. Times have changed. Get over it.

@CGiordano464 I agree, but it may not have been in bluegrass/newgrass. Maybe jazz or classical (which he plays equally well). He would excel in any genre, but the revolutionaries like Monroe through Hot Rize set the stage for his talent to blossom.

Thile is more than respectful of the genre and of the artists who came before him. He just wants to try new things. And given the incredible depth of his talent as a player and a composer, it's best that you take him seriously.

You may not like nickel creek, but it's not because they suck (grammies), and if you think "especially thile", you've obviously not listened to Punch Brothers... which proves once and for all (without the mandolin picking) that Thile is a brilliant composer and musician.
