Ohhhh my god THIS is when I became obsessed with the word "spyglass". HOLY SHIT I have traced this shit back to the root.

Oh my crap I had this VHS tape when I was little!! i watched it over and over. Brings back memories. It came with Poky Little Puppy and the Patchwork Blanket, and also Thumbelina I think.

My husband and I named our cat Scuppers in honor of this story we both love. Yes, our cat.

I'm so angry right now. This is one of few childhood books I remember. The narator's voice is great but who decided scuppers voice should be that of an american woman impersonating a Brit accent. It should be a male voice regardless of accent but my vote is for jimmy buffett

@jegrego1 I agree; I think Scuppers sounds better with a male voice. I had a read-along audiocassette of this story as a kid, and it sounded much better than this video (I think the tape was made in the early '90s.)

I'm sorry, could they not use the old sounds from the tape that came with the book? I love that old song hey "Under full sail in a fog, (under full sail in a fog) I.... Ammm Scuppers the sailor dog I'm scuppers the sailor dog!"
Childhood memories totally clash with what i see and hear in this video, and thats why i dont like it.

@Kg0ts0 I think that audio tape was recorded AFTER this video was made; I remember I had it too. I seem to prefer that version of the Scuppers the Sailor Dog song over the one in this video. He also had an additional song in that version ("To sea, to sea... that's where I want to be...") when he is heading over to his new boat, and right before he starts dreaming about repairing the ship when sleeping in his makeshift house on the beach.

Buy the book. It's wonderful. Unfortunately the creators of this video adaptation step on the role the reader's imagination plays in the experience, and so their adaptation detracts from the carefully crafted work of the author and illustrator and imposes its own interpretation on the reader. The book stands alone as a perfect treasure.

I had the book as a kid, and it IS a wonderful book. When I first saw this video I instantly could tell the differences.
