Single -- 'No Social'
Release Date -- 21st April 2008
Label -- Wall Of Sound

The Shortwave Set -- 'No Social' is the first single from their second album 'Replica Sun Machine'. The south London trio have, on a shoestring budget, recruited Danger Mouse, John Cale, and Van Dyke Parks for the recording.

'Replica Sun Machine' is the psychedelic pop adventure of the year, where acid-bright sunshine casts eerie shadows and illuminates uncomfortable truths. 'No Social' pulls all these elements together beautifully, offering the observation that "everyone knows that a dog dressed in clothes is still a dog." A typically wry lyric that's accentuated by it's off kilter soundtrack. The b-side 'White Lie' is equally endearing, and the package is rounded off perfectly with a suitably leftfield mix by Glasgow's finest Optimo.

At the invitation of Danger Mouse (a huge fan of the band's debut album 'The Debt Collection') The Shortwave Set, label-less and virtually penniless, maxed out their credit cards for a trip to Los Angeles last June, where they wasted no time in availing themselves of the string arranging talents of Van Dyke Parks (legendary Beach Boys collaborator - Smile, Heroes and Villains etc) and the distinctive soundscapes and atmospherics of The Velvet Underground's John Cale. The resulting album 'REPLICA SUN MACHINE' is an impossible-to-get-out-off-your-head trip, like a European Flaming Lips inspired by the baroque pop of the Left Banke, the cinematic scope of Serge Gainsbourg and the discomforting drama of Nico's solo albums.
