@trent8002003 I disagree. R & B and Nirvana changed western pop music. There are only four chord tracks and soulful vocals in western pop now. No Barry Mannilows. I actually preferred JPop when the singing was not good by western standards. The focus was on the song, not showcasing the artist's vocal skills.

@hirofan I agree that Jpop idols are comparatively better vocalists these days. We don't see the likes of Suzuki Ami anymore. But how does western influence mean less attention to melody??? Majority of western pops are very melodious.
