For the 14,000 Victorians of voting age with no fixed address, there are many reasons for not getting involved in the electoral process. But for Russell Kelly, who spent three years in and out of temporary accommodation before he was 20, there are just as many reasons why homeless people SHOULD get enrolled.

  • I was homeless for eight years from the age of fifteen, and in case you were wondering, no, children of that age don't CHOOSE to be homeless because they 'don't like being told what to do'.

Almost all of the homeless kids I met were abused at home, most often sexually. Others were just dumped, left behind when their parents moved away without telling them where.

Keep your pig ignorant opinions to yourselves if you simply have no idea.

  • Don't worry Russel, both the Libs and ALP are promising to cut company tax. That means the guy in the million dollar mansion will have more money and poor fucks like you and me will still be on the waiting list for public housing. Got to love Australia. Sometimes i believe i be better off living in Cuba.

I was homeless at sixteen by choice. It's not that I didn't like being told what to do, it was more that my parents were annoying and close minded. They Loved me all the same though.

I could claim mental abuse but really, it was just worth while more to me live in a fire emergency stairway than to be beneath their roof. Both had air conditioning. But one allowed me to bring girls over and the other did not.

  • @DocBrewster The options are incredibly limited depending on the situation. Many homeless actually have no identification, tax file number, or even their birth record. They don't have any bills or bank statements that provide a birth record. With no bank account, they have no access of any kind to centerlink. I was homeless for a few months, but I had options. Perhaps they should let people like this start a new identity entirely, its better than nothing.

  • @schwahelian You're a bastard, the world has enough ignorant pricks without you. We should be trying to help each other. We're humans, not animals trying to fight for survival, well maybe the homeless are but you couldn't give a shit less as long as you keep your middle class lifestyle.

  • @schwahelian The problem with this country/world is people like you schwhelian. Your only concern is for yourself and your own materialism. Some of us do not want your social Darwinist Australia. Instead we want a Australia about equality and fairness.

  • @skyscraper83 I don't want to know anything about you. Your type always has an excuse or someone else to blame. I don't tell you about me either shit head so get off your lazy communist arse and pull yourself out of the shit.

  • @schwahelian

So your basically say everyone waiting on a public housing waiting list needs to get off their ass? Get off you fucking high horse mate. You know nothing about me.

  • In WA it's really quite difficult for the people whoa re homeless to even enrol, as one needs to have another person co-sign (after reading all of your personal information) to confirm that indeed you are who you claim to be. If one moves around a lot, that would be an impossible demand to fulfil. If you were new to WA with no friends or family here, you couldn't fulfil that demand either, but I digress.

  • @skyscraper83 Get off your arse and work like the rest of us. If you try mate you will get somewhere in this life. Don't expect the public to look after you, otherwise there are plenty of us who would like to see you go to Cuba.
