Buckie was a class act, I can recall Richard Pitman saying in commentary, Silver Buck is making a move, and this animal has a wonderful engine, he was right, he hit the front and was never headed as he stayed on superbly well to win a high class entry in the 82 Gold Cup.
Silver Buck was a very sensitive, nervous horse and had it not been for the wonderful patience of the Dickensons and Robert Earnshaw the horse would have never been any good but he overcame his temperament and was one of the best post war chasers. Sadly, he met a tragic end, he took fright on his own yard and galloped into a high brick wall, shattering pelvis and ribs and he died of an internal haemorrhage before the vet could arrive. His last race was on St George's Day at Wetherby, he won it.

Does anyone know how old Tied Cottage was in this race? To my reckoning he was 14. Am I right?
