An on-line community is still a community and our on-line existence is still real.
I suggest that we stop suggesting that our off-line existence is "Real Life" and accept that this technology has created a new aspect to our social existence. For those who use it fully, Web 2.0 can provide as real a community, albeit on-line, as any off-line.
Arrrrg.
Damn word limit, I had much more written out here, but didn't feel like having to post it in 4 more parts.
Anyways, the short of it is that I think that when we move our society increasingly digital domain, people are missing out on the human contact, and touch that we truly need.

While I agree that online communities are very real, and becoming increasingly so, I do dissagree that they are the same as communities in "real" life. By "real" life, I mean the face-to-face, communities, and relationships which we have.
As fantastic as technology is to allow us to connect to eachother, I do not feel that anything can replace face-to-face interpersonal commnication. There is much which is missing when our communication can be reduced to ones and zeros over the internet.

A great response! I wholly agree. YouTube fosters inter-site communication, interaction between video makers and their audiences, guest spots / collabs between users, and integration with other social networking sites.
Nice joke in the end, there ;)
