"Decoding the hair" is a surprising, fun and instructive exhibition on a theme that is attractive by its familiarity, its universality, and its predominant place in our daily lives. It spans social sciences, life sciences, materials sciences, industry, technology and research. The exhibition has been designed to be interactive and will have attractive installations, objects, models, multi-media, computing it adapts to different places and cultures while retaining its coherence and legibility. The various cultural aspects of hair are also highlighted; 'Decoding the Hair' is a real scientific, aesthetic, historical, geographical and social voyage of discovery!

The exhibition will be customised for the Indian audiences and hence the text along with the films will be presented in four languages Hindi, Marathi, English and English Braille. The exhibition is built around four sections:

1. Of life and matter
2. The science of the product
3. The metamorphosis salon
4. Hair of the world

The exhibition made a great success attracting three hundred and fifty thousand visitors when it premiered in 2001 at C.S.I. in France. Since then it has attracted one million and five hundred thousand visitors in London, The Hague, Lisbon, Berlin, Helsinki, Sao-Paulo, Mexico, Hong Kong, Beijing and recently at Russia (Moscow) and Taiwan (Taipei).

The centre is conveniently located between Mahalaxmi station and Worli Naka. The exhibition timing is 10 am to 6 pm and ticket counter timing is 10 am to 5 30 pm. The exhibition is open to one and all. The admission fee for general visitors is Rs 20 with discounts for groups and students. The Science Centre is open to public every day including Sundays and public holidays.
