Part 1 of a playthrough of Snowboard Kids Plus for the PSX. All races completed in one sitting and without save states.

This is something I had an idea to record a run of for a while. People who have visited my site may be aware that I did a run of Snowboard Kids for the N64 some time back (it's hosted on a different video site), and I wanted to also do a run of the PSX version for the sake of comparison. I think it's one of the most interesting ways to compare the capabilities of the N64 and PSX. Also, not that many people are aware the PSX version even exists because it was only released in Japan and is somewhat rare.

As its name implies, Snowboard Kids Plus is fundamentally the same game as the N64 version, but it has some new content. The most obvious change is that there's a number of new characters, and the game now tracks which races have been won for each of them individually (which significantly extends the replay value). You can also now customize the costumes of your characters, and you can drop the Bomb weapon behind you, changing it from the worst powerup to the best. Finally, the PSX version also has storyboard-style cutscenes (which aren't in this video because they're long and no one would understand them).

But the PSX version isn't totally superior, for one thing you'll quickly notice that the frame rate is much worse, especially when all of the racers are close together. The game also only supports 2 players instead of 4, and it's not nearly as challenging as the N64 version. The first 6 races might as well have been time-trials, but it does heat up starting with race 7.

Since each race tends to be around 7 minutes long, the points to break the video up were fairly obvious here, but to fit the last race and ending into the same video I had to put one lap into part 8 of the video.

"Bingo!"

  • @mskiara18 They did cause this is a special version of Snowboard Kids, even though it's almost the same as the original, there's new characters, and some new features that they put, but it's only in Japnese, & I think that's the only place where u can get it.

  • Do they realize they spelled Snowboard wrong? o.o
