Carlton fines Fevola $10,000
CARLTON has slapped spearhead Brendan Fevola with a $10,000 fine for his much-publicised boorish behaviour at Monday night's Brownlow Medal count.

Fevola, 28, has been penalised for his alcohol-fuelled performance both during and after at the Crown Palladium function.

He was filmed several times during the televised count clearly affected by alcohol, and was then recorded swearing and making inappropriate gestures in the foyer afterwards.

Fevola was later seen smoking and vomiting on the balcony outside the official after-party before he returned to the festivities and clambered onstage to sing for the crowd.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann said his behaviour was simply intolerable.

"While Brendan is officially on holidays, he was representing the Carlton Football Club and the AFL at Monday night's function," he said in a statement released by the club.

"Much of his behaviour, particularly at the post Brownlow function, was totally unacceptable.

"It is very disappointing for Brendan, for Carlton and indeed for the AFL that such an important night for our game has been tarnished by his actions.

"On Monday he did not show the respect that such an occasion warrants and as such we have fined him $10,000."

Fevola has been dropped from Thursday night's grand final edition of The Footy Show, and his pre-recorded segment shot during his alcohol-affected foyer episode has been dumped from the show.

The Blues' goalkicker has apologised for his behaviour and admitted he was in the wrong, but said on radio he remembered little of his colourful antics.

"I had absolutely no idea I think you get like that when you have way too many," he told Triple M on Wednesday morning.

"From towards the end I cannot remember anything, pretty much."

  • sad drunk

  • I agree! Instead of running away, as the captain of the club, shouldn't Chris Judd have realised it was a potentially harmful situation 'for the club' and whisked him out the back and had a quiet word in his ear!?

  • half eaten dim simm shut upp bro fev's a superstar , yeaa hes got a problem with drinking jeeez SORRY no-ones perfect

  • Just because he knocked your mum back doesn't mean he's a poof!

  • thats because hird is a poofta

  • Better still, people should go watch the local league and tell the AFL to stick it up their ass. I know for me personally that I like to watch the best footballers, not the most well behaved ones. Would you rather your team win football games or brownie points? The AFL imposes ridiculous sanctions on players they know will be broken so they can hit 'em up for some bucks. The melee rule is a prime example.
