A Socio-Psychological Study: Part 12
The media influences millions of people, entire generations and societies, often from birth. Messages sink into our minds and when they are repeated systematically, can have a massive impact on our beliefs, behavior and lives. We need to make sure we are conscious of what ideas are slipping into our subconscious minds and make sure that any messages we ourselves spread (be it through music or videos etc.) don't repeat the same racial patterns.
This video study looks at justifications given by people trying to justify the racial imaging of females in the media and shows these justifications are in fact based on false ideas, misconceptions and a lack of comprehensive understanding about the way the human mind works.
* Video 1: INTRODUCTION
* Videos 2 - 9: JUSTIFICATIONS: The justifications some people make for bias in the media today
* Videos 9 - 11: ANALYSIS: An analysis of the impacts this has on our minds and society
* Video 12: IDEAS for the future
The aim of the video is to create a happier, more harmonious, more integrated and more cohesive community for all living in the West and the rest of the world.
ABBREVIATED SPOKEN TEXT OF THIS VIDEO:
Where for the future?
Having a majority of one racial group dominating the media all the time is abnormal, and no one can deny it. Change means moving from one set of ideas to another, new set and leaving old ideas behind. People hate change. Because change takes effort and because people like to be right. Moving from a society that says that some people are genetically better than others, to a world where everyone is respected for being exactly who they are, is important, its the way forward, its the upgrade. We might have to break old habits. We might have to look in the mirror and admit weve done something wrong. But the question is whats more important? Being right? Or doing the right thing for the people who live in our world and we care about? The machine is lying to us now and we have to stop feeding it.
So what do I want??
The answer is stop repeating the same message that some people are more important and normal than others.
I dont think you can blame me for wanting to see some positive discrimination in the media deliberate attempts to change stereotypical roles, and this really is a call to any media worker who has the creativity to be able to produce some new and original ideas.
And I cant help thinking at times that promoting the image of blonde women as a lead woman in these times, is a bit like giving charity to a rich person. Charity is good. But giving it to a rich person rather than a poor person doesnt help the poverty gap!
But why go from one extreme to another? Especially when extremes are what we should want to get away from? I hope the media and society - can just think about it and get it right, from now on. Simple.
Always putting blonde women first in front of other women, always making blonde women the main character, always making people become blonde just to be accepted in todays media society its got to stop. This is not magic. Its all stuff you all already know. Youll only ever know the truth when people are not influenced by years and years of repeated messages. This is what we have to work for, for the next generation, although for most people alive today, it might now be too late.
very insightfull piece, as a brunette man i never place another haircolour in front of the other, my own preference goes out to brunette women however, but i never would say that they are better then the rest its just a preference, and if i ever have a daughter i would never teach her that shes less then blonds, that was even before i watched your documentary, in any case good job :)
