Sounds like a good sign to me! I must tell you, Robin, that although he had been familiar with the Brahms Sonatas for several decades, he neither studied nor performed any of them until his mid 70's, and here he was in his late 70's.

I'm estimating that Shtern is in his late 70's for this performance. I heard Isaac Stern in the same piece at around the same age and it didn't sound nearly as good. Beautiful ensemble between the players, especially in that complex middle development section. Thanks for sharing this, Eric.
