Space shuttle Endeavour is in launch position at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida following rollback of the Launch Pad 39A rotating service structure.
Endeavour is scheduled to lift off at 5:40 a.m. EDT Wednesday, beginning its STS-127 mission. At 1:15 p.m. today, clocks will begin counting back from T-11 hours toward launch.
The mission management team is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. to give the "go/no-go" to begin loading Endeavour's external fuel tank with liquid propellants. With managers' approval, fueling will begin at 8:15 p.m.
Launch weather looks good, with an 80 percent chance of favorable conditions forecast for the final hours of the countdown
I hear it takes about 20 mins.

As you can see starting at about 1:50 the service structure arm is supported at both ends. Beyond that, it's just really strong materials and marvels of modern engineering.

I was about to ask the same thing.

At the risk of sounding stupid... does anyone know how exactly they support and hold this heavy giant up with out breaking anything?

the speed for NASA is slow and articulates. The crawler-transporter moves at 1 mph. So how fast do you think it would go.
