http://www.ntv.co.ke Experts are piling pressure on the government to overhaul the training of teachers across the country. A survey conducted recently indicates that a good percentage of kenyans can hardly read simple English and Swahili stories.

  • its the same thieves that have the big posts n evriwhere they touch seems to be a problem.

  • Lest we forget,so many teacher training colleges have been turned into this University or that college.Remember also that there was a time The World Bank pressured Kenya into stoping teacher training and to disband some teacher training colleges.Consequently many a teacher in our pri schools have no college training and society MUST NOT hold it against them.We failed to train them and now they are failing our children

  • Master grammer and pronunciation,ever listened you yourself madam Phd?Now unless one is in a very competitve environment and teach the same subject,you can seldom be as good,subject wise,as the time you graduated.University lecturers have been known to flank undergaduate exams.Moreover,teachers in Britain,Canada and the US have failed such tests.While it is not something to be proud of, it can only be rectified through continous education and commensurate motivation.Give teachers a break,will U

  • yeps lots of illiterates adults walking in the countryside and city streets carrying big tummies...old adults that think reading the Nation once a week qualifies them as thinkers and leaders...very sad.

  • the government has failed in the education sector. low pay, poorly built or collapsing schools and lack of enough schools are just some of the factors contributing to this problem

  • Many of these teachers can't even read or write properly. what are they doing infront of their students.

  • And to parents: Spend enough time with your children and let them learn from you especially in the early years of schooling. Teachers alone, should not be blamed for the shortcomings of school goers.
