Has anyone read Ron Chernow's new book on Washington? Fascinating read especially on Mt Vernon. I wish I had read at least the first 200 pages before I visited Mt Vernon.

@StatesManship I was at Mt. Vernon last Saturday morning. I had a 3pm flight to Dallas. Barely made it though. I enjoyed the trip to Mt. Vernon and I am glad that I was able to go. Next time I will plan to stay longer.

And EBanonymous. I took a minute to read about John Toland, whose name I knew but I was not fully aware of all his writings. I noticed that he wrote about Democrat Roosevelt knowing about the planned bombing of Pearl Harbor, but did not tell Admiral Kimmel. Toland is respectable, not like Ellis, whose slam job on Jefferson was based on his Pro-Clinton politics, NOT the FACTS of History.

@EBanonymous I had a college roommate whose nickname was "EB", but you are EBanonymous, not the same. Why are you afraid to identify yourself? My "YouTube" handle of StatesManshipUSA, includes my family name of Manship, my nickname is StatesManship. Now to your comment, there are "respected historians" who are far from "respectable" and a shade short of honest. Joseph Ellis is one such example who claimed to be a Viet Nam War Vet, though he never was in the Viet Nam theater of action. Toland?

@nujac321 Where was your flight off to? On Constitution Day, I returned from a talk at Strategic Command at Offutt AFB in Nebraska, and we approached from the south along the Potomac River, where I was able to see Mount Vernon from the aircraft window.

@GeorgeVreelandHill , I responded on the comments page, before I discovered this reply button on your post. Where do you live nowadays? When you come to visit again, contact me, and if schedules permit, we can view the place together.

Dear Mr. Hill, My mother attended George Washington U while my father was at the Naval Academy, and later my father received a Masters in International Affairs from GWU, yet neither took me to Mount Vernon, nor ever encouraged me to read a book on George Washington. I have corrected that void in my education, I feel very much blessed to live so near, indeed to be a Neighborhood Friend of Mount Vernon. I have many photos of Mount Vernon, including when covered with snow. Blessings to you. JRM
