  • It looks more dangerous than it really is. There are indeed lots of accidents. But since they are driving kind of slow you usually don't get killed. ;-) But it's definately lots of fun riding on the back seat with a Vietnamese...

  • bad traffic

  • I rode me's pushbike, and broke the pedals. They werent made for 90kg ... she got new plastic pedals though .. didnt learn her lesson about plastic pedals.

Getting used to the traffic ? Thats easy. You will find that if you obey the standard western road rules, you have no problem, except you may be a bit slower than the others. Just watch out for pedestrians ..if they are going to your left, move to your right carefully , before you have to do suddenly (and carelessly)

  • I drove faster than most on mother in law's 50 cc Honda Chaly - even when I had my wife on the back.

There were some young boys riding around in a pack early in the morning, going fast.

I saw some crashed motorbikes, and some blood on the road with flowers near it, and that sort of thing...

Helmets are required on the freeways and such.

  • I live almost all of my life in Hanoi and the traffic is really doesn't matter. It would take several days and you will get used to it. If you want to walk across the road that walking slowly, everybody will avoid you.

Food in Hanoi is the best in the world.

  • I've been to Hanoi 4 times in 2 years, most recently May '06. In fact, I usually stay at a hotel within 2 blocks of this Hang Gai intersection. The first meal I ever ate there was at Little Hanoi, shown in the opening scene right on the corner. Old Hanoi drives me nuts after a few days of dealing with the chaos and racket, yet I always miss it so much once home to my quiet little town in Califonia. I love this little city, and I've made some great friends there.

  • man I got home sick watching this -_- I'Ve just been there last month.I miss my bike and the smell of fuel :D

  • Check out my story on motorbikes in Vietnam at www.michaelgray.ca. I was there during a soccer tournament in 1998 and kids raced their bikes in the street all night after Vietnam won. I did see some kid almost get killed. Crazy stuff.

  • get killed? not that bad:D

  • 20yrs ago most Hanoi had only bike. Now they have motorbikes. Traffic and bike riders' behavior sucks. The mad society but only fun for the youth is to ride motorbikes.
