Gilani Taylor, the 27-year-old woman who narrowly escaped the burning car that took her daughter's life after crashing on the 101, died last night, according to KTLA.

Taylor was an aspiring R&B singer, but her life took a turn for the worst early this month when she was driving on the eastbound 101 near Calabasas. Early reports said that Taylor lost control of her car which flipped and caught on fire, but reliable witnesses said that Taylor was side-swiped by a white SUV. Now investigators are treating the incident as a hit-and-run case.

The car flipped and caught on fire, killing Taylor's daughter Jayla at the scene. Gilani narrowly escaped, and Good Samaritans pulled over and took off their shirts to beat the flames off her body. Taylor was able to talk to her husband at the scene of the crash, and she knew that her daughter had died. Witnesses said she was crying to Jesus and saying that she wanted to join her daughter. She was completely burned, except for the soles of her feet, but she was able to hang on until last night while in a medically-induced coma.

Gilani's husband and Jayla's father Rodney Taylor spoke to KTLA TV crews last night. He told them he wants the driver of the white SUV to come forward, but he says he has no ill will toward the driver.

"If he came up to me right now, I'd give him a hug. I have nothing but love in my heart. That's how my family was, that's how we was taught," Taylor told KTLA.

  • My God!! When I first saw this on the news my heart was instantly broken. How careless of a driver that caused this pain to the family and loved ones of Gilani and her baby girl. Message to the family: May the Lord keep you in his unchanging arms during your time of need. Reminder: You know you loved Gilani and Jayla but the Lord loves them more. You will see each other again. God Bless you all....... Sis Hickson (L.B., CA)
