SUPPORT THE BRISTOL 3: Success! Paula has been offered her old job back. Royal Mail made the decision following the demonstration and just before the Industrial Tribunal. Colin & Michaela have to wait until next month for their tribunals.
Hundreds of postal workers and supporters marched through Bristol in support of sacked Colin Tucker, Kay Gibbs and Paula Franklin. Management's evidence of alleged incidents includes CCTV footage that shows that they are innocent!
Speakers at the rally described how management's attitude towards the workforce had changed. This comes from the Labour governments move to privatise public services, such as Royal Mail, and run them as businesses for shareholders rather than for all of us.
Everyone approached agreed that Labour no longer represented workers. People signed the petition calling for a new workers party (Campaign for a New Workers Party).
The Communication Workers Union already has gained concessions from management -- however any conditions (such as a 60 mile round trip to work in Weston-super-Mare) are unacceptable. Members in Bristol will be balloted for strike action, if reinstatement is not offered.
The debate within CWU will continue to grow as to why its members money is being given to a party that attacks public services and its workers - Labour.
