Another controversial aspect about the McCormick Place's location was that it originally was situated about 1.25 miles from the nearest hotels (the Hilton and the Blackstone) and a little farther from the Loop. Conventioneers generally prefer the convention center to be a much shorter walk from the hotels where they're staying. For the last few decades, there has been a hotel that is part of the complex, but it's just one hotel.
