(started a new mail account to be able to access youtube, which locked me out after i 1. didnt give out my phone number 2. didnt supply my mail - i guess IP tracking mail is enough)
You need to listen to the context, i never said consensus isnt the best way to go theoretically speaking, but direct democracy cannot be upheld without an institutional context.

@lassek85 Direct democracy is majoritarian. 49.99999% of society can suffer from a more popular opinion. Consensus democracy, which includes all opinions, is much more just.

It's a beutiful world, lets keep it such. Socialism with corporatism is the closest we've had to real communism (read: a society without class, with equality) and its achieveable and even a logical evolution in some degree.
Thanks for your music, a beutiful world is simply the best song ive heard overall - even if im not a strong follower of string theory! Have a good weekend mate.

But in any competetive area there will be survival of the fittest, competition to gain advantage. Structure to gain value. If you remove the top, it will just be recreated...
Meanwhile the populution will grow, though humanity deals with finite resources (as mentioned) which the human species as a whole does not unless its structured. Which means we would always be bound by the tradgedy of the commons.
As said this is my personal view, but it can easily be supported with research.

I might have come out too negative, dont get me wrong a great tune - the message is as clear as it can be and as any ideal melody that has a chance to break through, it is "catchy".
My pov: Capitalism is natural competition, the invisible hand does work on free markets due to the dichotomy between structure and value (absolutes, call me a madman ;D). If you remove structure the value for it will bring new structure - the more unstructured value, the more value in structuring.

Point being direct democracy wont work because 1. It's easily abused. 2. It doesnt deal with finite resources, which humanity must deal with.
What would actually happen if everyone voted 'none of the above'? Re election? Current guy stays in charge? I'm curious.

When you reached local democracy you lost me, im into society studies and the trend within the EU ( a very much intentional one) is called direct deomcracy - basically decisions are being made closest to the ones effected by them. Only problem being that the normbasing decisions (the real governing power) is placed higher and higher, away from the National State, away from the individual into company controlled politicians who atm arent being controlled by the people.

@lassek85 if you eliminate corporations and the state that's not a problem any more and local direct democracy can work. listen to the rest of the third verse...
