he's actually using his pointer finger and so does Gilbert but i think Vai uses his middle, both are great at tapping so i agree with rockbeast, its all preference

I used the GT6 (boss) and a peavey deltablues amp.
Not really what you should have to play this kind of stuff.

very good, I have a question... I use the midle finger to do taping, and my hand is in the "air" (I don't use the fretboard to repose my hand)
Is better use the ring finger ( like you) ?

hi, thanks for your comment.
the reason why i repose my hand on the fretboard is because i do it to mute the onther strings. The finger you use is not that important, it depends what you prefer. Some use their middle finger like you to hold their plectrum between index + thumb while tapping.
