  • Scallops dont have eyes yo. Theyre photosensitive filter feeders

  • They are indeed primitive eyes , they have 70 of them .Google scallop eyes to read more .

  • @flyingscience That's a matter of interpretation as to what you define as an "eye', correct? They are light sensitive, but cannot truly "see".

  • @cliffcox66 Biologists and biology books call them eyes .Google for more info . They are primitive .

  • I posted this at the same time as the sea urchin video .Sea urchin isn't winning any popularity contests .I thought the camouflage was cool.

  • ah it's kind of cute ^.^ and sea scallops can swim too o.O which is kind of funny and interesting to picture :3

  • @flyingscience Biologists who Call them eyes probably don't mean to imply they can visually discern details (forms, textures, complex patterns) of the environment by interpreting varying degrees of reflection. The name should be appropriate to the referent's function. Eyes = lay term. Calling them eyes doesn't magically endow them with complex visual capacities. And stop using google for educational purposes. At least use scholar.google.com

  • Cool Video. I have actually never seen one alive before this. Of course, I live in Ohio, so it isn't something that I run across very frequently.

  • @wheelalligator You are correct. Why do you talk of yourself like that though? Anyway, you are correct, 10 you can call it an eye. 2) it detects light and changes. Bye bye little Cousteau.

  • @cliffcox66

You can always tell when someone tries to talk knowledgably about something they know nothing about.

Someone who actually knows biology can tell you that an eye is an organ that detects light. Some are very complex, and some are very basic, being capable of doing little else than detecting light and movement, but they're still eyes.

Unless you're someone confuses the word 'factual' with 'fucking stupid', in which case you argue constantly about eyes not being eyes.

  • and ariel puts these on her tits?

  • @AmericanGirlz10

LOLZ YA whuzz rong wid him...

...can't he repeat what he hears?

  • oh fuck, by flyingscience I meant "cliffox66". just read below to catch my mistake.

  • @flyingscience

I don't think winning an argument with semantics is any better than resorting to ad-hominem attacks. Not that I am doing any research on it - I just take note that you failed to prove your claim before implying you had disproven flyingsciences' claim.

Although not olfactory, I can claim the pits on a snake's jaws are primitive nostrils. If a herpetologist disagreed, fine, but I wouldn't read it to you verbatim out of a book called "SNAKES."

  • @flyingscience OK, as per your suggestion, I did google the eye question and although the term "eyes" are used, it is written that they are photosensitive cells, but do not transmit a visual picture. So, i think, objectively, the term eye(s) is still just a matter of interpretation. Just trying to be factual, not argumentative, for the education purposes of those seeking knowledge. Thank you for the video. It is very interesting and informative.
