Jeffrey Sachs came to the RSA in London to explain why he supported the campaign and what it could do for the world. Jeff asked to take some time out to thank the supporters.
@jschwart37 "Jeff Sachs is a respectable economist" ok, to half the reviews out there, however the other half think he is a complete disaster..especially if they live in Poland or Russia... they are not too respectfull LOL.
Also reading the book reviews on Amazon is very revealing....don't you just love the internet.. some very well educated people make some very damning observations about Mr Sachs !
"In Sachs' track record with post-communist economies, his critics see a man eager to advance grandiose visions of social engineering irrespective of their costs."
from the artice:
The Evolution of Jeffrey Sachs (google it for a balanced view)
Just to give a balanced view against the 'appeal to authority' fallacy being used by RHT propaganda machine. Show me one presentation by Sachs or RHT mob addressing the MANY dangers of this proposition, no more emotive and populist claptrap please.
@libertopian I agree completely, giving the government another source of income is just gonna see more MP's abusing an already fragile system. I am up for the tax, but we need to find a way that would allow a strict monitoring of the way the tax is spent. and severe penalties imposed for any breach of the spending of the tax
He's honest: one of the main reasons for this tax is to provide an extra source of revenue for governments - governments which have spent too much and lost control of their deficits. It's just a money-grabbing exercise.
To other commentators: Jeff Sachs is a respectable economist. It's fine to disagree with his views, but if so then provide real reasons, not ignorant smears. If you want to know about him, read about him on Wikipedia. (Or just google Jeff Sachs.)
