Apparently, this track was sequenced in the Atari POKEY sound chip by Stefan Niestegge (Beetle). The Atari version is slightly different, but they're clearly the same song. I have the Atari version in my channel (I also submitted here as a video response), for those that are curious.
The Atari version was released 2 years after this one, and it's probably just a homage. I like the Atari version best, though.
You can find the cover on the Atari SAP Music Archive as "sahara.sap"
