MLPA and Ocean Protection Council Warned On Illegal Surveys

On Sept 17, 2009 Mr. Steve Sullivan delivered a warning to the Ocean Protection Council, that vessels conducting marine sonar surveys for the Marine Life Protection Act Initiative were doing so illegally without the required permit OR the required marine mammal observer on board. This was on the same day the OPC was allocating millions of dollars to the corrupt, privately funded MLPAI.
Mr. Sullivan's warnings went unheeded. A month later the MLPAI's sonar mapping vessel struck and killed a 72-foot blue whale just off of Fort Bragg, California, on Oct. 19, 2009.
This video is a historical record of Mr. Sullivan's testimony before the OPC, and the subsequent killing of the whale.
