The film showcases climate change adaptation strategies applied by small-scale farmers in the drought-prone, arid west of South Africa, in particular the husbandry of wild rooibos. Wild rooibos is far more resilient in the face of climatic extremes than the cultivated rooibos that is widely marketed in Europe. Participatory research has broadened knowledge of sustainable use, and farmers have evolved adaptation strategies that have increased resilience. The film makes clear the links between complex environmental, social and economic issues by reflecting the insights and experiences of producers, including farmer-participatory field trials to propagate plants and monitor regrowth after fire.
