yeah, not only does it stop duplication... BUT, if (like me) you have a very weird connection, you get dropped for nothing.
its a good thing, but its also bad.

you used to spam bonewall and meteor to desynch your characters from the server, you join another game, drop your shit, and voila; duped items. It was patched mid 1.11b I think. They implemented a connection drop for characters with massive changes in latency over short periods of time, hence the disconnection.
