Rachel Chan Suet Kay meets the Click Five at the MTV Asia Awards 2008, the inaugural MTV Asia Awards to be held in Malaysia.

What are the common subjects of your songs? Life, love, and loss. We could write about a lot of things and these subjects have all been in composition for centuries. People want to live, love, and they experience loss.

Many of your songs feature girls. How important are girls to your songs?

Girls have always been at the heart of rock and roll. We focus on the understanding of people and how they interact in general. On bigger things. Girls are a part of it, no doubt.

Are the girls a big motivator to keep going on in music?

It's a good perk, but the real motivator is that we like to play music, get emotional with our music. Being on stage is the most thrilling thing you can do 'the connection you just form with the people there its almost like being in a relationship. There's so many highs, and lows as well. Cooperation creates a high. That keeps us going. We're hooked on creating and performing music.

Can we say then, that the formula for success is 50 percent chemistry between band members and 50 percent talent?

We don't think there's any formula for success. We all get along, we apply our musical skills. Its magical, somehow it all seems to fit together. I don't know if you could compartmentalise it like that. Its about connecting at a deeper level.

How long have you been in music, all of you?

I guess its when we were all still in our single digits. We are strangely dedicated, as unconventional as it is a thing to do (being in a band). We met in college between 2000 to 2001. It was in random circumstances, that we became roommates, friends, then the band came after.

Musical influences?

As serious musicians, we have a pretty vast musical library. We're inspired by the great rock and roll bands of yesteryear. Rock and roll bands that had evergreen songs like the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Elvis Costello, we admire songs that are timeless.
