Elkie Brooks does a great version. Elkie had a European hit with this in 1978. Great singer.

Melissa's version is much better because she shows the wide range of her voice. Also, the favorite part of the song in my opinion is the trumpet at the end, which goes almost as high as she (Melissa) does. Awesome trumpet part, for sure.

music is great here and i do not prefer slow- paced music . it is more somber.
melancholic backup singing with the wailing effect is stupendous. more of it was needed.

I like both Rita & Melissa, I think Melissa nailed it. Melissa's range seems to be better, at least for this song. Only posting 79 is sad. This song has been in many movies, TV shows & talent competitions, probably more than many #1.
