This is how we spray painted our t-shirts for Beefy Beef Records in 2009. Rich Quigley's holding the camera.

  • I used Mylar purchased at a local art store. Spray paint in this town, Seattle, was BANNED. Which is ridiculous.

  • You don't need a special paint. But you do need to avoid glossy. All spray paint comes in two styles, flat or glossy. Use the flat. If it's just basic cheap spray paint, use flat and light sprays. If you ever see anything that says "ultraflat" that works best, but you don't have to use it.

I've air dried shirts in the sun and had no bad results.

The only problems I've had is using glossy paint, because it tends to spread out.

    Good luck.

  • ULTRA FLAT PAINT. I should have explained that. FLat or Ultra flat. It lays right on there. Then toss the shirt in the dryer. 20 minutes. hot. The plastic is just basic plastic. Spray paint is now banned in Seattle. But otherwise, yeah, it works. Krylon Ultra Flat. (Problem is I haven't found a color in ultra flat other than black.) Also, these shirts-- the paint doesn't come out. We did sweatshirts for a tour in 2006, and I've washed mine constantly since then, still a good visual.
