The first news coverage I saw. No idea yet how it happened or how many were hurt.

OMG! This is why I have a fear of driving over bridges over the Mississippi.

Nightmare Bridge Collapse 6:00pm in Minneapolis

EDIT 6/24/08: 13 people were killed on the bridge. The new bridge is almost finished and should be open by X-mas Eve 2008.

  • Holy crud, what a mess!!

I read your comment above about your brother - I HOPE HE'S OKAY!

  • Yes, we finally reached him, he's just fine, thankfully! He traveled that bridge every day.

  • Has explosions been ruled out? the bridge came down like a highway in an earthquake. any unusual vibrations? is there a seismic reading at that time?

  • i am from mn and i was sooo shocked when this happened i called all my friends and family and they were alright i am so shocked i am sorry for all the famillies who had a friend or family killed or injured my heart goes out of everyone of u!!

  • Well if it was done on purpose, and I'm not saying it was, but that would be the purpose...to shock the masses. Shock puts people in a vulnerable position.

  • I can't believe how emotionless you people are! I live about 15 miles from the bridge. Went to see it Saturday and it just broke my heart. This is a living Hell and you guys can just sit here and talk about how it is so convenient...My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the families of the missing. We are all up here in Minnesota freaking out and hoping we aren't going to see a picture pop up of someone we love and you can just sit around and blame politics rather than have a heart!

  • Really sad that it had to happen. Webber Falls OK people google it, we lost 11 people and apprantly it made no diffrence, because all our bridges are still in bad shape. It is so sad that now all these people are suffering because we spend more money on sports, travel, entertainment, and wars than we do our own roads and bridges

  • That is so sad. I can't believe that something so horrible can happen when they inspect these structures, how do things like this happen? I feel for everyone who's family was affected by this disaster.

  • It never ceases to amaze me that structures built of metal, steel, rock, can fall into a crumpled mess of twisted debris. My thoughts go out to the family I am from ND and have relatives there and thank god they were safe. My thoughts and prayers go to anyone who has family an friends there.

  • I'm from MN and was still at work when this happened, the first I heard about it was a friend who sent out a text message letting everyone know she was ok. I had no idea what she was talking about so I called a different friend...then i saw it on Yahoo's homepage. Crazy stuff...i hope i don't know anyone who's got killed. Sorry for those involved.

  • It's amazing things like this don't happen everyday all over this country!

As gas tax money gets dirverted for other causes, ALL gas tax money should be spent on the highway infrastructure rebuilding.

Just wait until one of New York's bridges falls into the river!

It's only a matter of time!

  • I'm FROM MN, just 2 hours from where this happened. I think the whole state was in shock..
