well Precision bass worked just fine for James Jamerson. Geddy Lee uses a Jazz bass, and that works for him.
people use what works for them. and those two examples are/were some of the best bass players.

man, I red the name of larry graham as one of your influences, why don't you post one of his early gems? (I know it's hard to switch from THAT hook to THAT thumb!!!) I recently listened to sly's 1967 "a whole new thing" and there are some breathtaking basslines such as "if this room could talk" or "dog"... how I guess to hear these riffs directly from yer f-u-n-k machine!
if I could only afford a '62 p-bass... ;-)
