They're deluded because they believe things based on illogical reasons and they're ignorant because they don't understand how evolution works.

People are that "deluded" (i.e., ignorant) because ignorance is the default human condition. It takes effort to know why evolution is known to occur, and why evolutionary theory is correct.

People's opinions about complex phenomena don't matter much. Most people in the world have no idea that evolution is an observed fact, let alone know what evolutionary theory is. That sad, sorry state of affairs is even worse in the USA.
