"Bel insecte à l'aile dorée" (beautiful insect with golden wings). Duet with Eurydice and Jupiter (as a fly).

In this scene from "Orpheus in the Underworld" by Jacques Offenbach, Eurydice has been taken to Hades by Pluto. Jupiter wants to win fair Eurydice for his own, but can't get past Pluto's door into his bedchamber. Cupid comes to Jupiter's rescue and transforms him into a fly so he can get past Pluto's door and woo Eurydice.

  • wasnt it Orpheus that went to the underworld to save Eurydice?

  • "Orpheus in the Underworld" (Offenbach) is a spoof of the classic opera "Orpheus and Eurydice" (Gluck).

  • Lovely singing (particularly from the soprano), but the song loses a bit of charm in this translation. The French is so charming, really deserves a better translation or to remain French.

  • I adored it.....

  • It's weird in English...

  • Wow you guys are awesome!
